In the bustling city, everyone has their own story. And some of them have extraordinary experiences that are worthy of our attention. For decades, the Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) has been looking after people’s needs all over the city, doing our best to leave no one behind, no matter who they are.
The HKRC recently held the “Every One Matters” Photo Exhibition in July, showcasing to the public heartfelt stories of a student with special educational needs, a volunteer first aid responder, a staff member of our tracing service, a volunteer of psychological support service, and a loyal cash and blood donor.
Every story may have an end, but the act of caring and concern for vulnerable groups could go beyond boarder and time. Nowadays, tens of millions of people around the world are threatened by extreme weathers. Early this month, the HKRC launched the "Silent Warnings of Climate Disasters" fundraising appeal. We invite you to register as a “Climate Ambassador” and make a contribution to humanitarian efforts for climate-related disasters.
Here in Hong Kong, in response to the 5th wave of COVID-19 pandemic, the HKRC has provided a series of humanitarian services to the vulnerable and affected individuals, serving over 41,000 people and distributing more than 130,000 anti-pandemic supplies. It is found that nearly 40% of citizens who received our supplies only had food reserves for two days or less. Therefore, we introduce the "Store Up Strategy" and call for the public to save up supplies for unexpected emergencies. If everyone makes the effort to strengthen disaster preparedness, the community will be more resilient in handling emergency situations.
Elderly is a group we always care deeply about. Recently, we have launched the "Elderly Service Donation Scheme", inviting those who care about the elderly to support our development of elderly services in the aging society. Please stay tuned to our updates for further details.
In addition to supporting our donation projects, children are welcome to join our annual "Red Twinkle Star Campaign" to learn about humanity through fun-filled activities and spend quality time with family.
We wish you and your family safety and good health!
